What happened

Per Narvinger succeeded Börje Ekholm as president and CEO on October 1, 2026, following the succession announcement on June 16. Ekholm is scheduled to remain executive adviser through June 15, 2027. Narvinger previously led Ericsson’s Networks business and its Cloud Software and Services business.

On October 15, Ericsson announced that Åsa Tamsons will step down from her enterprise wireless leadership position on December 31, after supporting the portfolio’s integration.

Private 5G and neutral-host solutions—shared infrastructure supporting multiple mobile operators—will move into Business Area Networks. Wireless wide-area networking, which connects business locations and devices over cellular networks, will remain standalone and report to Americas head Yossi Cohen.

A combined Asia-Pacific region will begin January 1, 2027, led by Patrick Johansson. Ericsson will recruit a replacement for his Europe, Middle East and Africa role.

PREMIA VIEW · ANALYSIS

Premia view: reassess relationships as commercial accountability changes

The structure places private networks and indoor connectivity closer to Ericsson’s core network capabilities, while putting wireless enterprise connectivity under Americas leadership. For smaller providers, the strategic question is how their role fits the new organization: specialist integrator, channel partner, managed-service provider or direct competitor.

Owners should refresh their relationship maps and confirm who controls product investment, partner terms and customer escalation. In acquisition diligence, a strong vendor relationship deserves examination beyond its historical revenue contribution: its durability may depend on specific executives, programs or commercial arrangements.

WHAT REMAINS UNCERTAIN

Detailed partner-program changes, product-investment priorities, Tamsons’s next role and any wider staffing consequences. The announcement does not quantify workforce reductions or establish service disruption.
